Sujora Conrad - multi disiplinary artist

Wheatbelt Residency

A two month Residency in the central wheatbelt of Western Australian - 'Activating the Collection’ sponsored by the Carnamah Historical Society and Art on The Move.

For this Residency I was looking particularly at ideas around ‘land as home’, and, the absence of women represented in the historical records from the period.  The Residency included researching  the local Museum Collection, giving artist talks, running adult and school workshops and holding a solo exhibition.

My work was informed by a land promotion scheme from the early 20th century that was developed, marketed and managed from England.  This unusual scheme offered English farmers a semi cleared plot of land with a small dwelling in rural Western Australia.
